Billing FAQs

Fall Quarter Billing

In mid-August, notifications are sent to the SU email addresses of students who have registered for fall quarter classes, advising them that their Fall Quarter eStatement is available鈥痠n the Student Account Center. 鈥疉uthorized Users鈥痺ill also get a copy of this email.

Winter and Spring Quarter Billing

Winter and Spring Quarter eStatements鈥痓ecome鈥痑vailable approximately one week after pre-registration opens to any student who has registered for classes for that quarter.鈥 A monthly eStatement鈥痠s generated and an email is sent to students and Authorized Users moving forward each month (even if the balance has been paid in full).鈥 These eStatements are a snapshot in time and do not necessarily reflect current account balances.

Summer Quarter Billing

Summer Quarter eStatements are generated by mid-May and notifications are sent to the SU email addresses of students who have registered for Summer Quarter classes, advising them that their eStatement is available鈥痠n the Student Account Center.鈥 Authorized Users鈥痺ill also get a copy of this email.

Account Activity Notices

Email notifications continue to be sent to students' SU email addresses (and to Authorized Users) whenever there is account activity (credits or charges) to view. A student's Account Activity is live information that will update immediately after any account changes or payments have been made.

Charges include tuition for the鈥痗urrent quarter's registration, fees and, if applicable, room and/or meal charges, and payment plan setup fees. Recent changes to鈥痳egistration, housing or meal plans prior to the date of the invoice may not be reflected.

You can expect to see this type of information on your bill:

  • Payments: Payments reflect any payments received, including financial aid and deposits, prior to the statement date.
  • Estimated鈥疐inancial Aid: Estimated鈥疐inancial Aid reflects any estimated financial aid that is to be applied to the account. 鈥疶his aid will be accounted for when setting up a payment plan, even if the aid has not yet been disbursed.
  • Total Balance: The final total in the far-right column, indicates the balance due or anticipated credit refund as of the statement date.鈥疉 minus sign (-) before the amount due indicates a credit balance. In this case, payment is not needed, and students鈥痵hould see鈥Credit Balance Processing鈥痜or more information.

Financial aid recipients鈥痺ho鈥痟ave questions about鈥痶he status of pending financial aid items should鈥痗ontact Student Financial Services.

Financial aid recipients鈥痟ave the right to reject or request a reduction in鈥痵ome or all鈥痑id funds awarded to them, even if that aid has been disbursed to their student account.鈥 To do this, students must submit the .

Cancellation鈥痮f aid funds may result in an unpaid account with 快猫视频 unless鈥痶he amount due is paid鈥痓y the tuition due date for the current quarter. An unpaid balance on the student's鈥痑ccount may prevent future registration and/or the鈥痑bility to obtain diplomas, so the Student Financial Services Office鈥痟ighly recommends鈥痶hat students reach out鈥痶o discuss all the possible ramifications before taking this action.

Credit Balance and Refunds FAQ

A credit balance is the result of鈥痯ayments, including the transmittal of financial aid, on a student's鈥痑ccount that exceeds the鈥痗harges.

A credit balance on a student's鈥痑ccount that is鈥痶he result of Estimated Financial Aid being deducted from the鈥痗harges on the account, is not a true credit balance鈥痷ntil the financial aid is actually disbursed. 鈥疶hus, it is鈥痭ot available to the student until all financial aid for the quarter has been posted to the student's account.

If there is a credit balance鈥痑fter all payments (including disbursement of financial aid) have been posted to the account, the funds will be processed for a refund. Credit balance refunds are processed beginning the first day of each quarter.

Funds are sent to the student (or to the parent if the funds are from a Parent PLUS loan and the parent has selected to receive the refunds directly*).

Electronic Refunds (eRefund)

Funds are transferred to the student's鈥痓ank account via eRefund, which is setup on Student Account Center. This is the preferred method.

Paper Checks

If eRefund has not been setup, a check will be mailed to the student's鈥痗urrent mailing address of record as shown on鈥 (where students鈥痗an also go to update that address). Mailed paper checks may be delayed鈥痠f the student hasn't鈥痯rovided a current, local mailing address.

*Parents will receive funds in the form of a paper check mailed to the address on the PLUS loan application. To update parent's address, please email financialservices@seattleu.edu).

A credit balance refund will automatically be generated if:

  • There are鈥痭o other balances due to the University.
  • The student is鈥痑 financial aid recipient and is registered for at least as many credit hours as are shown on the鈥痜inancial aid award letter.
  • A Parent PLUS Loan is not included in the student's鈥痜inancial aid award.

A refund will NOT be automatically generated if:

  • The term with the pending credit has not yet begun.
  • A check over-payment was made on the student's鈥痑ccount within the last 10 business days*.
  • The student is not currently enrolled.
  • The student's enrollment does not match the anticipated enrollment on the financial aid award offer letter.

If you believe a refund on your account should have generated but it has not, please鈥痗ontact鈥Student Financial Services.

*There is a 21-day holding period for credits that result from an over-payment from a check or online e-check.

Electronic Refunds (eRefunds) direct deposit authorization鈥痑llows the credit balance on a student's account, after all charges there have been paid, to鈥痓e sent directly to the student's鈥痓ank account. We recommend鈥痷sing this option in order to receive your funds as quickly as possible. For students who anticipate鈥痗redit balance refunds after all charges on their鈥痵tudent account have been covered, direct deposit is the quickest way to receive those funds.

  1. Log into .
  2. Select Student Account Center.
  3. Select the blue button for Student Account Center again (please avoid using Safari as your browser).
  4. Wait for the screen to load then select Refunds at the top of the page to start the process of adding a United States bank account for refunds to be sent to.

To ensure funds are available by the first day of the quarter, financial aid needs to be finalized (all paperwork completed, submitted and processed) 30 days prior to the start of the quarter.

For students who鈥痗hoose not to set up eRefunds,鈥痗redit balance refunds will be processed as鈥痗hecks which are鈥痬ailed to those students'鈥痬ailing address of record at鈥,鈥痺here they鈥痗an also go to update that address as needed.鈥 To update the mailing address, log on to鈥疢y快猫视频U and click on User Options then User Profile using the left-hand menu.

For information about refund dates and amounts, please see the Refund of Tuition and Fees policy.

快猫视频鈥痠s required to return "unearned" aid to federal and state sources as explained in鈥Withdrawing from Some Classes鈥痮谤鈥Withdrawing from All Classes, depending on the student's situation. 快猫视频-sponsored aid will be returned to its source based on the refund percentage鈥痙ue based鈥痮n the official date of the student's鈥痺ithdrawal.

If most of the student's鈥痗osts were covered by financial aid, most of their鈥痳efund will be returned to those aid programs, with any remaining balance being refunded to the student.
